AMAVUBI coach Milutin Micho was unhappy with the way his team conceded a late goal in Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Eritrea, insisting they have to concentrate throughout every match. He was speaking during his postmatch interview.

Amavubi were 3-0 ahead with just two minutes to play when they allowed the Red Sea Boys a consolation goal through Abraham Tedros, whose set-piece was too good for goalkeeper Jean Claude Ndoli in goal.

"I was quite pleased with the performance, but I was not happy with the last four or five minutes,” said Micho.

"I want players to be focused and to concentrate from the first minute to the last.”

This result coupled with a 1-all draw in the first leg ensured Rwanda qualified to the group stage where they face an even sterner test against the likes of Algeria, Mali and Benin in Group H.

Olivier Karekezi, who rarely featured during Sellas Tetteh’s reign, put the team ahead after just three minutes proving he can still deliver at the top level. The APR striker latched onto a rebound following Elias Uzamukunda’s strike, before converting from close range.

Then, on the 71st minute, substitute Jean Claude Iranzi continued his recent scoring spree with a brilliant individual goal, before Bokota Labama capped the impressive display with a third goal 11 minutes from time.

Micho also maintains that he takes no personal sense of gratification from the team’s resurgence - and insists there is still room for improvement.

After a disastrous 2012 Nations Cup campaign, which saw the team thrashed 5-0 at home by Ivory Coast, the wasps have since chalked up two wins and a draw.

Micho is now focused on continuing the momentum with another spirited display in the upcoming Tusker Challenge Cup.

"The team is in a rebuilding phase and it is very important that we get results to boost our confidence,” the Serbian said.
