Editor,

This letter is in reference to your article in yesterday’s issue of The New Times, titled "Senate approves new appointments.”
The appointment of Odette Uwamariya as the new Governor of The Eastern Province alongside the approval of two new ambassadors.

Women empowerment is deeply entrenched in the country. It is very creditable to have women occupying many key positions in both Government and the private sector. Many Rwandan women also own very successful businesses.
Uwamariya takes over after having gained a wealth of knowledge and expertise in her previous assignment as co-ordinator of the projects implementation department in the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
I am sure Uwamariya will follow in the footsteps of her predecessor, Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira and take the Eastern Province to even greater heights.
