The Kigali Wireless Broadband (Wibro) technology is currently in the trial phase before it is fully operational, according to an official.

Antoine Sebera, the Chief Executive Officer of Broadband Systems Corporation Limited (BSC Ltd), an Internet Service Provider (ISP), said that the technology is testing in various institutions in Kigali.

The company is engaged in the business of providing advanced Information Communication Technology (ICT) services based on broadband connectivity.

"Few Individuals and institutions are using it to test the speed of the internet connectivity before we launch it in January next year,” he said.

Sebera stated that the technology, which was developed by a Korean firm, Korea Telecom (KT), said the technology will be accessed by everybody.

He said that one of the challenges they are facing is that the technology is not covering the entire Kigali, adding that plans are underway to extend it further.

The technology provides high quality, affordable and reliable broadband services to homes and businesses alike, and that stimulates the private sector growth.

According to Sylivie Mboyo Mukunde, the Director of ICT at Kigali Institute of Technology, Wibro is working well and the internet is very fast.

"We are currently using the service and we have not encountered challenges regarding its connectivity,” she stated.
