The holiday basketball camp, which is organized by the Rwanda Basketball Federation, starts on November 14th to 28th, 2011.

The camp is staged at different spots in Kigali namely; Kigali Institute of Education’s basketball court, Club Rafiki Nyamirambo, Youth center Kimisagara, Youth center Gatenga, Caisse Sociale Kacyiru and IFAK Kimihurura.

In an interview with Eric Kalisa Salongo, President of the Rwanda Basketball Federation, he said the camp would benefit both girls and boys.

"We do put up these camps so that we can promote the game of basketball from the grassroots. We want to promote youngsters if the game is to retain its momentum in the future,” Kalisa said.

He further adds that since basketball is a game of discipline, children will be trained in the area of discipline as well.

"It’s from these camps that we discover talented children. We find time to know and select children who are very good at the game,” said Kalisa.

The children will be taught the fundamentals of basketball such as; the rules before they are trained on how to dribble or dunk.

Children from the ages of 10 to 17 years will participate at the camps between 9:00 a.m to 12 noon. The second round of the camp will kick off on December 1st-21st, 2011. Children will be separated in age groups for better training.
