It is saddening to learn that some civil servants do not value the wealth declaration act. For the umpteenth time, the office of the Ombudsman has raised the issue with relevant government institutions for employees to explain why action should not be taken against them. This bogs down the noble endeavours of the diligent anti-graft agency to play a part in safeguarding the use of tax payers money in partnership with other agencies like the Auditor General’s Office.

I suggest that civil servants who cannot justify viable reasons in meeting the deadline should have their salaries slashed. Handling them with kids’ gloves will not help our country enforce the culture of accountability and transparency, which we need.

Public servants should always be exemplary in promoting the culture of accountability.
