Eatingout: No ordinary carwash

Spoilt for choice: Lunch buffet.

I’m not going mad. This is in fact a carwash but it’s not just a great place to clean up your ride. Located in Kimihurura along Nyabugogo road, this well known hangout is also a bar and restaurant.

The menu covers just about everything – Chinese, Italian, Kenyan favourites and Ugandan specialties. Prices range from about Frw1000 to Frw5000. The bar is well stocked and for the smokers among you there’s a designated smoking area.

"For those who take wines and spirits it is your chance to get them at low prices in the whole of Kigali,” boasts Donne Lukusa, Carwash’s manager.

Breakfast which starts at 7.30 a.m, I’m told (though I’ve never tried it) is great for early birds with an appetite. An extensive buffet available for Frw1300 makes this a busy lunch spot. Dinner however is even busier. And things tend to get fairly lively as the night goes on.

Service is quick and polite; better than average I’d say. Dressed in smart uniforms, waiters are happy to help with all your queries.

Once you’re here, without doubt you will come again with your family and friends. For sports fanatics, this is not a bad spot to catch a match.

Carwash is ideal for a quick bite to eat and can accommodate large groups. It’s also a great place to get your evening going, get the party started!

So, beyond the carwash and a well stocked supermarket, is in fact a great place to chill out. Even if your car’s not in need of a wash, head down to Carwash for a good time at any time of day.
