NYAGATARE– A delegation of leaders from the Western Province has said it was impressed with modern village settlements in the Eastern Province.

Led by Governor Celestin Kabahizi, the team was on a two-day official tour of the province.

On the second day of the tour, the delegation visited several development projects in Nyagatare District, including a granite factory, a rice scheme as well as Nyagatare milk plant.

Speaking to reporters, Kabahizi noted that the main purpose of their tour was to cement bilateral ties between the two provinces and learn from the development projects there.

"We are here to learn specifically how they excelled in village settlements… our province is behind in this area, which is why we wanted to learn from them,” said the governor.

Kabahizi added that his delegation expressed their admiration of Kayonza Modern Village and modern banana farming, adding that they would adopt similar initiatives back home.

"We are still behind in modern farming especially with regard to banana. We are going to apply modern farming technology along the shores of Lake Kivu.”
