Editor,

Several reforms at the Immigration Department have helped expedite the services it offers to the public. In many countries it is very difficult to access services of such agencies because of the red tape that is traditionally associated with their functions.

Nonetheless, the Rwanda immigration Department has proved that pragmatism is possible even in functions that need utmost care. Recently, I was at the agency’s head offices in Kacyiru, and was amazed that it took me just 4 days to get a passport! In the past acquiring such a document would take you months.

For temporary travel permits, it is even much easier and faster – in just a day!

It is clear that there is an extremely high level of efficiency at all levels in the Immigration Department. I was also told that it is possible to get a VISA in the shortest possible time, by just applying ONLINE. How inspiring!
