RUBAVU- A local nongovernmental organisation, Association of Vulnerable Widows Affected and Infected with HIV and AIDS (AVVAIS), yesterday donated 36 Friesian cows to the needy and people living with the HIV virus in the four sectors of Rubavu District.

The formed groups to engage in productive group work, support each other as well as fight against stigma.

The NGO’s National Coordinator, Chantal Nyiramunyana, handed over the donation which she said, aims at alleviating poverty among the beneficiaries, especially HIV positive individuals.

The beneficiaries were selected from Nyakiriba, Kyanzarwe, Kanzenze and Mudende sectors.

According to Nyiramunyana, the donation which supplements the government cattle stocking programme, Gir’inka, would provide nutritional support to HIV infected people.

One of the beneficiaries, Eugidia Mutezinka, said that the cows will help them get milk, fertilisers and dung for cooking using biogas.

The vice Mayor, Rachael Rusine Nyirasafari, asked the sector authorities to monitor the progress of the needy people and help them transform their lives
