Kigali City Mayor, Fidel Ndayisaba, on Monday, urged tax collectors to work hard to boost the city’s revenue base.

He made the call during the opening of a five-day training workshop targeting 35 tax collectors drawn from various sectors of Kigali City.

The workshop that was convened at the Rwanda Revenue Authority Workshop Centre in Huye District, Southern Province, aims at equipping the officers with skills on the laws governing tax collection.

"After the completion of the training, we hope the officers will be well equipped to collect all taxes as stipulated by law. We also expect them to be well prepared to answer questions and concerns which may arise from the taxpayers,” Ndayisaba said.

A beneficiary, Esther Nyirandategetse, observed that the workshop would help them carry out their duties efficiently.

"We are in the field where people are ignorant of some taxes they must pay. After this seminar, we will be able to explain to taxpayers the various forms of taxes levied against them and the reasons for paying them,” she said.
