For many music students, the journey towards mastering their craft is long and arduous, with countless hours spent practicing and perfecting their skills. And once they complete the course, the next step is to venture into music as a profession.

For one recent music graduate at Nyundo School of Art and Music, the prospect of pursuing a career in the music industry is both exciting and daunting. The young musician, armed with his talent, education, and fierce determination to succeed, is setting out to create his own path to success.

20-year-old Daniel Mugisha, also known by his stage name ‘Kagoma’, is a passionate aspiring musician who has always dreamed of doing music.

He started as a drummer for his church’s choir at the age of 14 before discovering his singing talent. However, Mugisha also dreamed of becoming a professional football player.

"Discovering my singing talent intrigued me, I wanted to learn more about music, so when I completed high school, I applied to Nyundo School of Art of Music and I was lucky to be accepted. When I graduated in 2022, I was thrilled to release my first song ‘You’ produced by Niz Beat,” said Mugisha.

The singer, songwriter, and drummer recently released his second single dubbed ‘Vendredi’, a mood booster for the weekend produced by Julesce.

He revealed that he has had a few challenges since embarking on his career, including not getting the opportunity to market his music well enough to reach a wider audience and build strong connections with other musicians who have been in the industry for a long time.

Asked where he sees himself in five years, the singer said that he sees a different artiste from the one he is today.

"I hope to have achieved a lot, not just at the national level but also become a well-known artiste internationally, representing Rwanda,” he said.
