Rayon Sport have put the blame on Burundian Caf referee Desire Gahungu for their Confederation Cup defeat against El Merreikh on Monday in Khartoum.

According to Sudan press reports, Rayon’s Congolese coach Raoul Shungu attacked Gahungu for denying his strikers what he described as "the chance to get a shot on target”.

Shungu was quoted saying that his strikers would be ruled offside every time they tried to get towards the opposition goal.

Like his coach, the day’s team captain Jean Lomami also blamed the referee for the big loss but is assured of overturning the result and qualifying from the Kigali second leg edition.

El Merreikh’s Faisal Al Agab (Paulinho) opened his side’s scoring in the 36th minute before Ala Al Din Babiker and last year’s Cecafa Cup top scorer Abd Al Hamid Amarria scored in the second half.

Rayon will be without Aimable Rucogoza after the Rwandan international defender was red carded following an offense on one of El Merreikh’s strikers.

Rayon who reached the second round of the Confederation Cup after eliminating Ethiopia’s Harar Beer but must to overturn a 3-0 deficit to reach the group stages of the competition.
