Editor,

RWANDAN women have continued to raise our national flag high around the world. Following the recent appointment of the Eastern Province Governor, Dr.Aisa Karabo Kakira, as the Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director of the UN-HABITAT, by the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon,  another Rwandan woman, Sylvie Zainab Kayitesi, the chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, was, this week, elected a the vice president of the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights.

Indeed many more Rwandans have risen to high-profile international positions, and I have no doubt that many more will increasingly play crucial roles internationally. Needless to say the Rwandan Defence Forces and the Rwandan Police Force are major players in international peacekeeping operations.

All this has become possible due to the country’s visionary leadership.
