Ugandan artiste performs at Ishyo Arts Centre

Ugandan heartthrob, Maurice Kirya, is set to perform at Ishyo Arts Centre in Kacyiru, Kigali today starting from 7p.m. Kirya, who has previously performed in many African countries and Europe, will stage a show in the country for the first time. The star is on a tour that will see him and his band visit ten countries in a period of one month. The tour began on October 17, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and then on to Swaziland, Burundi, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Sudan, and before eventually wrapping up the concert in his home country, Uganda.

Ugandan heartthrob, Maurice Kirya, is set to perform at Ishyo Arts Centre in Kacyiru, Kigali today starting from 7p.m.

Kirya, who has previously performed in many African countries and Europe, will stage a show in the country for the first time.

The star is on a tour that will see him and his band visit ten countries in a period of one month. The tour began on October 17, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and then on to Swaziland, Burundi, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Sudan, and before eventually wrapping up the concert in his home country, Uganda.

Touted as one of the best East African performers,  Kirya is notable for his guitar skills.

His song ‘Binadamu’ which he collaborated on with Tanzania's rapper AY was nominated for the KORA awards.

The 27-year-old was born into a musical family and almost all his siblings are singers. He is the brother of Krazy Native a.k.a Saba Saba and Vamposs.

Kirya started singing professionally at age 15; recording with popular Ugandan gospel, rap, and jazz artistes. His musical style is described as a unique blend of Soul, Afro and R&B sounds.

He was the 2007 Best R&B artist winner of the Pearl of African Music Awards in Uganda (PAM Awards). Kirya was also nominated at Kenya’s Kisima Awards and has worked with the legendary Mali musician, Moussa Diallo, Cecile Verny Quartet (Germany), Beniwe (Paris), First Love (Uganda), Pragmo (Uganda) and Kaz Kasozi(Uganda/UK).
