Editor,The Greater Virunga Transboundary Collaboration (GVTC) has noted with concern a story reported in The New Times of October, 13, titled: “Elephants destroy crops in Rubavu.” The GVTC is a mechanism for strategic, transboundary, collaborative management of the Greater Virunga landscape. Wildlife, unlike human beings, do not respect boundaries and move freely across borders and sometimes endanger human lives and destroy property.

The GVTC is a mechanism for strategic, transboundary, collaborative management of the Greater Virunga landscape. Wildlife, unlike human beings, do not respect boundaries and move freely across borders and sometimes endanger human lives and destroy property.
Having noted the challenge the communities are faced with, the Greater Virunga Transboundary Collaboration Secretariat in line with our mission, "strengthening transboundary collaboration for conservation and sustainable development across the Central Albertine Rift” are in touch with both Volcanoes National Park of Rwanda and Virunga National Park of the Democratic Republic of Congo to find solutions to alleviate this problem.
