Editor,

The death of Libya’s leader, Colonel Muammer Gadhafi on Thursday should be a big lesson to other dictators. Gadhafi was a notorious tyrant and he thought Libya belonged to him. Even when it was very clear that the tide had turned against his 42 year rule, Gadhafi remained defiant.

Leaders need to realise that you cannot rule for ever. They should learn to respect the will of their people.  Killing those who oppose you is not a solution and can never last forever.

Gadhafi killed many innocent Libyans during the spring unrest and detained many. He turned Libya into a monarchical state and openly practised nepotism.

I believe leaders who cling onto power for many years have one or two things to learn from Gadhafi’s down fall.

Whatever has a beginning always has an end.
