NYAGATARE - A 30-year-old woman in Kiyombe Sector, Nyagatare District was allegedly hacked to death over a land-related dispute.

The incident happened in Bureka Village in Karambo Cell.

Police said that the deceased, Dativa Musinguzi, was allegedly hacked to death with a machete by her two brothers-in-law while tending her farm on Wednesday afternoon.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the murder. The suspects were identified as Silver Gashija, 26 and Theodomile Yokana, both young brothers to the deceased’s husband.

"They (suspects) crossed the border from Uganda and found her tending her farm. They hacked her using a machete,” said Police.

The suspects were captured by area residents while attempting to flee back to Uganda.

Kiyombe Sector Executive Secretary, Emmanuel Mwumvaneza told The New Times, that the deceased’s husband recently escaped justice after committing crimes and had instructed his wife to sell their land.

"She ignored her husband’s orders which I think could be the motive of attack. But we thank residents for collective efforts in arresting the suspects,” said Mwumvaneza.
