KIGALI - Uganda’s Defence Chief, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, has been in the country since Tuesday on a three-day working visit to enhance relations between the two countries, an official said yesterday.

According to the Military and Defence Spokesperson, Col. Joseph Nzabamwita, Gen. Nyakairima’s visit comes in the wake of the directives by the two countries’ Heads of State, following President Yoweri Museveni's four-day state visit here, in July.

Yesterday, Nyakairima held discussions with his counterpart – Gen. Charles Kayonga, and other top defence officials and also paid a courtesy call on Defence Minister, James Kabarebe.

"His visit to Rwanda is a symbol of the very good working relations between the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF),” said Nzabamwita.

"It is within the normal collaboration that exists between the two armies, and the relationship that exists between Rwanda and Uganda.

"Our militaries are cooperating in several areas and the visit of the CDF will strengthen the collaboration that exists between the two defence forces.”
