AMAVUBI will have two weeks of preparation before next month’s 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifier against Eritrea.

The team which starts residential training on October 30 will play the first leg of the preliminary round in Asmara on November 11 before hosting the Eritreans four days later in Kigali for the return leg.

While some sections of Amavubi fans are already grumbling about the seemingly short preparation period, Amavubi’s interim coach Eric Nshimiyimana maintains that it is sufficient.

"Of course any coach would prefer to spend as much time as possible working with his team ahead of such big games but due to the nature of the Primus league calendar, it is not possible,” he said, before adding, "two weeks is ample time to prepare a team and I believe we shall be ready for the first leg when the time comes,” the former Amavubi and APR midfielder said.

It is still unclear who will be in charge of the team. Nshimiyimana together with 29 other coaches including former Amavubi coach Ratomir Dujkovic, are in contention for the Amavubi coaching job which fell vacant back in August. Sellas Tetteh threw in the towel after a disastrous 2012 Nations Cup qualifying campaign.

The winner between Rwanda and Eritrea will join African giants Algeria, Mali and Benin in Group H.

The top team from each of the 10 groups will qualify for the final play-off, and will play on home and away basis to determine the five slots.

In all, 154 matches will be played between November 2011 and November 2013.
