Rwanda’s special focus on persons with disabilities laudable

Editor, It was wonderful to read Stevenson Mugisha’s interesting article in The New Times, October 15, titled “Revised construction rules to benefit PWDs.” Rwanda’s special focus on persons with disabilities (PWDs) is, indeed, creditable. Most often, we tend to take our God given faculties for granted and tend to neglect our fellow brethren, who are PWDs. In reality, such people need our very special care and concern.

Editor,

It was wonderful to read Stevenson Mugisha’s interesting article in The New Times, October 15, titled "Revised construction rules to benefit PWDs.”

Rwanda’s special focus on persons with disabilities (PWDs) is, indeed, creditable. Most often, we tend to take our God given faculties for granted and tend to neglect our fellow brethren, who are PWDs. In reality, such people need our very special care and concern.

Esther Mutamba, Director General, Rwanda Housing Authority (RHA) and Eng. Catherine Kalisa , Director of Inspection , RHA , should be applauded for their initiatives to redress the current situation.

Their inspection of all under construction buildings will ensure that henceforth, the minimum standards and requirements for PWDs are complied with.

The Government of Rwanda is always concerned about all its citizens and RHA’s initiative and special attention to PWDs will go a long way in enabling them to get into the mainstream of Rwandan society.
