Man arrested for suspected defilement

KAYONZA- Police in Kayonza District in collaboration with local leaders, arrested a 38-year old man, for allegedly sexually abusing a four-year old girl. Dorothy Musanabera, a resident, told The New Times that the parents of the victim, on Saturday afternoon, left her with her elderly grandmother, when the suspect, Jean Nsengiyumva, committed the crime. Kayonza mayor, John Mugabo cautioned parents against leaving their children without proper care and urged grassroots leaders to be more vigilant.

KAYONZA- Police in Kayonza District in collaboration with local leaders, arrested a 38-year old man, for allegedly sexually abusing a four-year old girl.

Dorothy Musanabera, a resident, told The New Times that the parents of the victim, on Saturday afternoon, left her with her elderly grandmother, when the suspect, Jean Nsengiyumva, committed the crime.

Kayonza mayor, John Mugabo cautioned parents against leaving their children without proper care and urged grassroots leaders to be more vigilant.

Police has intensified efforts to fight GVB and child abuse after the district recorded high cases of the crime.

"We are working closely with the people under our community policing programme...the sensitisation against child abuse and GBV continues,” Police said.

The suspect is currently held at Rukara Police Station as investigations proceed.
