The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), has congratulated, Dr. Jean Damascene Ntawukuliryayo following his election as the Rwandan Senate President.

The regional parliament’s speaker, Hon. Abdirahin Haithar Abdi, said that Dr. Ntawukuliryayo’s victory is a sign that the Senate has full confidence in his leadership abilities.

"I am certain that Dr. Ntawukuliryayo, who previously served as the Deputy Speaker of Parliament of Rwanda, has the credentials and the necessary experience to steer the Senate forward,” said the EALA Speaker.

"EALA assures Dr. Ntawukuliryayo of its full support. We are confident that with such rich (curriculum) vitae and experience, the Senate President shall deliver the responsibilities of the new docket with impetus and vigour.”

In the same vein, the EALA Speaker saluted Bernard Makuza, the former Prime Minister of Rwanda and Jeanne d’Arc Gakuba, who were both elected Vice Presidents of the Senate.

"I also wish to thank the outgoing President of the Senate, Dr. Vincent Biruta, whose mandate has come to an end, for steering the inaugural Senate impressively over the last eight years in drafting, ratifying and passing vital Bills.”

The EALA Speaker further notes that the bloc’s legislative arm enjoys warm and cordial relations with the Parliament of Rwanda, and is committed to ensuring the co-operation moves "a notch higher” for the betterment of Rwanda and the bloc.
