V-ball duo close in on pro deals

APR star spiker Lawrence Yakan and Vincent Dusabimana aka Gasongo of National University of Rwanda (NUR) are close to signing professional deals with ‘Etoile sportive de Sétif, one of Algeria’s top volleyball clubs.

The pair, who flew to the North African nation last week, has been undergoing trials and reports indicate that the Algerians have been impressed.

APR coach Sammy Mulinge has tipped the players to shine.

"It doesn’t matter where they play from. They have the ability to stand out against any kind of opposition,” the Kenyan said.

The pair played a part in Etoile Sportive Setif straight sets victory over Murudia early this week.

The Algerian league starts this Friday and ESS open their campaign against USM Blida, who are also said to be interested in signing Kigali Volleyball Club’s Christopher Mukunzi.

Elie Mutabazi and Jean de Dieu Uwineza, who ply their trade in France, are Rwanda’s other professionals.
