Editor,

I express my sorrow over the loss of two Rwandan peacekeepers serving under the auspices of the United Nations-African Union in Darfur (UNAMID) who were, on Monday, killed in an ambush in the Sudanese region of Darfur.

As a country, we should come together to mourn the loss of the two gallant sons who died on a mission to restore peace.

Their actions will forever remain in our hearts and before our eyes they remain heroes. Their efforts will not be in vain. Their loss is a sacrifice for peace in the continent.

Today, we join their families to not only mourn but also celebrate lives loss for a great cause.

We also pray that four other Rwandan officers as well as Senegalese and Gambian Police constables who sustained injuries during this attack will have a quick recovery.

To those still on the mission, we say, don’t succumb to the enemy and the haters of peace. Stand for the virtues that you went to protect. We are with you in spirit and we pray to the Almighty to protect you at this trying period.

Rest in Peace
