Rwandan female cricket star Henriette Ishimwe says their utmost aim is to retain the T20 Women&039;s Cricket Invitational Tournament currently going on in Nigeria.

Rwanda started their title defense in style, defeating Ghana by 117 runs on match day one and player of the match Ishimwe has stressed that they are only in Nigeria to defend the trophy.

"We came here with an objective to retain the trophy no matter what. We don’t care whether the teams are tough, we are only focused on winning every game," she said after the match.

Ishimwe hailed her teammates’ character to play as a team which she believes helped her side win by a big difference in runs against Ghana.

"We came into the game with so much hunger to win. We did quite well in both batting and bowling and I think it was the reason we won the match by a big difference of runs,"

"We did well in bowling and batting and I think that’s why we won the game."

Ishimwe was in top form against Ghana with 4 wickets including a hat trick, conceding 4 runs in 2.3 overs to win the best player of the match award.

She thanked her teammates for their support as she maintains that collective effort made her win the laurel.

"The fact that I performed well and became the player of the game is not down to me but to my teammates. I performed well because the team was performing well," she said.

"We played as a team and the coach was always there for us," she added.

Leonard Nhamburo’s charges return to action on Wednesday. March 29, to take on Sierra Leone who lost their opening game against hosts Nigeria by 6 wickets.
