Amavubi’s 1-0 away win at Benin under interim coach, Eric Nshimiyimana, was a major shot in the arm despite the team’s elimination from next year’s African Cup of Nations.
Finishing second means a lot to a team which had slumped to a 3-0 defeat at the home turf to Benin. It’s a boost in confidence.
It also tells a lot about the credentials of interim coach Nshimiyimana who seems to have a close understanding with his players. I am not saying that the win in Porto Novo automatically qualifies him for the top job, but it enhances his chances.
The good news is that the national team has a crop of young players coming through. The qualifiers for the 2014 African Cup of Nations are just round the corner and Rwanda can give this another shot.
