56 km Ngororero-Nyabihu road inaugurated

NGORORERO- The road linking Ngororero and Nyabihu districts was inaugurated yesterday at a colourful function attended by thousands of residents from both districts.

Top government officials also graced the joyous occasion which attracted local leaders from both districts.

Dr Alex Nzahabwanimana, the State Minister in charge of Transport at the Infrastructure Ministry noted that a major achievement had been registered.

"This is a landmark achievement and it’s clear that the local population will stand to benefit from this new road,” Nzahabwanimana told a cheering crowd.

He urged them to make good use of it by promoting business such as trade with other districts.

"People will end up improving both their social and economic life,” he said.

Nzahabwanimana reaffirmed government’s commitment to improve the road network, throughout the country.The 56 kilometre road network is estimated to have cost approximately Rwf23billion.

It was constructed in a period of two years.

Meanwhile, during the occasion, some residents complained that they have never been compensated despite their expropriation.

However, the Minister requested them to be calm, saying that, it might take time, but they will eventually be paid.

Gideon Ruboneza, the Mayor of Ngororero district said that the road will help to boost trade with other neighboring countries such as Burundi and Uganda.
