REIGNING league champions Kigali Basketball Club (KBC) start their Zone 5 club championship campaign this afternoon against Burundi’s Urunani at the Main Gym in Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania.

While conceding that his side lacks experience at this level, KBC head coach Pierre Gategabondo said that his team would stick to the basics of the game.

"This is a new challenge for most of the players but we shall give it our all and see how it goes,” said an emphatic Gategabondo.

Meanwhile, APR will make yet another attempt at winning the tournament when they play Tanzania’s Vijana later in the day.

On arrival at the Julius Nyerere international airport yesterday afternoon, APR head coach Cliff Owour told Times Sport that, "We are ready to play any team that comes our way. We have prepared well for this tournament and want to win it.” 

The former Kenyan international added that the army side was desperate to win the regional event so that they qualify for the continental tournament (Fiba-Africa Club Championship) where they finished third in 2009.

Contrary to last year, Owour is spoilt for choice this time round.

Deo Nkurikiyinka, Presta Malemba, Mike Buzangu and Kami Kabangu were all in good form at the end of yesterday’s training session.
