Nakumatt opens second store

Nakumatt Holdings, the leading regional retail chain store on Thursday launched a second supermarket store in Kigali City Tower as a way of increasing the store’s clientele base. The expansion intends to increase its clientele base from 20,000 per day to 25,000, according to management.  The extension is also part of its chain retail store’s continental expansion drive dubbed ‘Nakumatt 2.0’. The move is also seen as a strategic move to meet customer demands in the East Africa region and beyond.

Nakumatt Holdings, the leading regional retail chain store on Thursday launched a second supermarket store in Kigali City Tower as a way of increasing the store’s clientele base.

The expansion intends to increase its clientele base from 20,000 per day to 25,000, according to management.

The extension is also part of its chain retail store’s continental expansion drive dubbed ‘Nakumatt 2.0’. The move is also seen as a strategic move to meet customer demands in the East Africa region and beyond.

Nakumatt Rwanda’s Country Manager, Adan Ramata, said the new store known as Nakumatt Kigali Tower, which is twice the size of the current store situated at Union Trade Centre, cost US$3.5 m (Rwf2b). The new store covers an area of 45,000 square feet compared to the Kigali City Centre branch which covers 27,000 square feet.

Nakumatt’s Head of Business Development, Neel Shah, confirmed that the opening of Nakumatt Kigali Tower is part of the firm’s plans to attract further investments into Rwanda by providing a world class market channel for retail products and services.

"The support Nakumatt Holdings has received here in Rwanda from the government, our esteemed customers, partners and suppliers is simply overwhelming,” Shah explained.

Ramata also disclosed that the retail store plans to open up a third store in Kigali very soon.
