POLICE striker Meddie Kagere is the shock name in Amavubi’s squad to face Benin tomorrow.

Amavubi’s stand-in-coach Eric Nshimiyimana revealed the final 18-man squad for Saturday’s 2012 Africa Nations Cup qualifier after yesterday’s morning training session.

Kagere, who claimed last season’s Primus League golden boot, couldnot hide his excitement on hearing the news.

"It’s a really proud moment for me and my family,” he said. "I’ve just got to go along and enjoy the experience of being involved with the international team.”

"I’m sure there will be a few nerves over the next few hours because it hasn’t really sunk in yet, but I’m looking forward to this opportunity and I’m going to give it my best shot.”

Police coach Goran Kopunovic was just as pleased. "Everyone at the club is absolutely thrilled to hear that Meddie has been called-up,” said Kopunovic. "He is top man and a top professional.”

"He has got his rewards for the high level of performances that he has produced week in week out. He works exceptionally hard on a day-to-day basis and I’m sure he will give Amavubi absolutely 100 per cent,” the Serbian added.

Police’s in form defender Frederick Ndaka and Rayon Sport midfielder Sina Jerome were also recalled to the squad.

The team left for Porto Novo last evening aboard Ethiopian airways.

While Benin’s Squirrels still have everything to play for, it is a case of pride for the wasps who are glued at the bottom of Group H with three points out of a possible 16.

Benin and Burundi are on level points (four) while Ivory Coast tops the group with 16 points.
