Local investors residing in Kicukiro District pledged to investment in the district as part of their support to the development strategy.

The investors made the commitment yesterday during a Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) meeting that brought together opinion leaders in the district.

Among those that applied for land to put up investment projects is Rwanda Tourism and Travel Agency/Gorilla Motors Limited.

Yusufu Mudaheranwa, the head of the company, said his company intends to construct a shopping mall "and if you allocate us land, we are prepared to develop it as soon as possible.”

Others are the Gacuriro-based timber dealers, who expressed their willingness to extend their business to the district.

Others include Bertin Makuza, the Rwanda Foam proprietor, who wants to construct a shopping mall in Nyarugunga and  Kabeza and Kicukiro investment groups, who are in the process of acquiring the Kabeza and Kicukiro markets, respectively, to upgrade them to shopping malls.

Vendors in Kicukiro market are scheduled to be, temporarily, moved to Ziniya market as the district finalises the construction of another modern market in Nyanza.

Makuza observed that financial institutions in the country are willing to extend loans to investors.

"There is need for people to organise themselves, form groups or companies and this will facilitate them to get credit facilities,” he said.

Paul Jules Ndamage, the chairperson of RPF in the district, who is also the district mayor, said that there is enough land for development.

He called upon all investors, especially residents in the district to support the district in its development strategy.

Among the areas supposed to be redeveloped according to the master plan, are buildings along the Sonatube-Nyanza highway, which should all have a minimum of four-stories.

The meeting was organised, among others, to bring together RPF opinion leaders in the district to discuss the way forward for the party and devise a strategy to drive investment in the district.
