KIGALI - The office of the Government Spokesperson will officially start operations soon, the Minister in Charge of Cabinet Affairs, Protais Musoni, has disclosed.

"The office will effectively facilitate communication between the government, its citizens and global audiences,” said Musoni, in an interview with The New Times yesterday.

He added that, the Prime Minister’s Office is currently inviting qualified candidates to fill the various vacant posts in the new office.

"Once we have got the qualified staff to occupy the vacant positions, we shall then decide how this office will operate,” the Minister noted.

He emphasised that the main reason for the establishment of the organ is to build an efficient and proactive government.

"The information Rwandans have been missing regarding the country will definitely get to them through this new office, because it will specifically speak on behalf of the government,” Musoni said.

He mentioned that the office would also defend the government interests and its citizens by responding to defamatory statements made about it.

The creation of this office follows the phasing out of the Ministry of Information.
