Editor,

The New Times yesterday published a story indicating that 361 government officials failed to declare their wealth with the Ombudsman’s office. This is sad and the Ombudsman ought to crack the whip without mercy.

It is unfortunate that our civil servants are to continue with this habit yet the country is committed to the fight against corruption, and the promotion of a culture of transparency.

It is important for the Ombudsman’s office to carry out checks to verify whether the wealth declared is indeed true and punish those who never comply.

Tough measures should be taken against government officials found under-declaring their wealth.
