Two university students will represent Rwandan youth at the United Nations General Assembly Youth Delegates Program which starts on October 1 in New York, United States.

The duo; Karine Rusaro Utamuliza and Aloys Ntezimana, both students at the National University of Rwanda, will join other young delegates from across the globe to deliberate on issues affecting them.

During the week-long program, the UN Youth Delegates will participate in the third committee of the General Assembly where they will draft and deliver a statement on issues affecting the Youth.

"We will use this platform to give input to deliberations about youth issues, in particular, the resolutions on policies and programs involving the youth,” said Rusaro.

The meeting aims at enabling the youth to participate in the international decision making process mainly in the UN General Assembly. It was recommended for the first time by the assembly in 1981 and adopted the World Program of Action for Youth.

This program emphasised the adoption of the UN Youth Delegates Program since 2000 and beyond by calling upon member States to include Youth Representatives in their national delegations to the General Assembly and other relevant United Nations meetings.

All this is aimed at enhancing and strengthening the channels of communication through the discussion of youth-related issues, with a view to finding solutions to the problems confronting youth in the contemporary world.
