Members of Parliament under the African Parliamentarian Network Against Corruption- Rwanda- Chapter (APNAC-Rwanda) have adopted a year-long action plan to combat corruption.

The network also developed a five-year strategic plan to implement its activities.

This was announced during a consultative conference chaired by the president of the network, MP Constance Mukayuhi, who noted that the fight against corruption had to be continuous.

"The plans are clearly and professionally drafted to guide us in executing our duties. As long as corruption is still existent, we won’t relent in the fight,” said Mukayuhi.

She however pinpointed some of the challenges on ground that include sensitising the masses on laws that protect them and encouraging them to report cases of corruption.

Part of the action and strategic plans will see lawmakers mount countrywide campaigns against corruption, conduct research and collect data on corruption.

The network has partly been sensitising local leaders to play a key role in the fight against corruption. Senate vice president, Prosper Higiro, however, proposed that the network should shift its focus towards victims of corruption.

Currently, APNAC- Rwanda has 72 registered members.

Senate President Dr. Vincent Biruta, Speaker Rose Mukantabana and Ombudsman Tito Rutaremara are the honorary members of APNAC-Rwanda.
