I was reading one of my favourite magazines, and I noticed on one page how a certain woman, who was featured in that monthly magazine, had beautifully combined colours and style in her home.

One of the things that glued me to the page to take a closer look was how well she had mixed vintage and contemporary ultra modern furniture for her home décor. Looking at the pictures of her home, there is a feeling of old life and new mixed all together to bring out something out of the ordinary.

Blending modern and vintage décor can be sophisticated, chic and an interesting juxtaposition of styles. When decorating using a mixture of vintage and contemporary it can be interesting to work with one or two vintage pieces and use them as focal points in your design.

Finding a transitional piece that connects the vintage and modern elements in your room can be very creative, because it will give the design a more unified look. Colours should also be used wisely because it is what ties the entire furniture together.

Pieces of furniture to be used in any room should feature a specific colour that almost matches the colour of the room to unify the whole room design.

Also when mixing furniture, create some surprises with upholstery by putting retro patterns on contemporary pieces and very modern fabrics on vintage furniture and antiques. Being nimbly inventive with textiles and textures enlivens a room as well as making the pieces appear more distinctive.

When it comes to choosing the furniture, the pieces of these furniture should be of the same scale and share a design ethic. For example I read that modern country furniture would look great with chic vintage pieces.

For any modern living space a large feature mirror is an absolute must, mirrors have a way of creating small spaces appear bigger.

There is nothing I would love to have in my house like a vintage bathtub. Vintage bathtub can instantly transform a dull modern bathroom into a place of luxury and old world glamour, a place where one would like to spend quality time taking care of their bodies and relaxing in a hot bath.

If a house has a home office, the retro designs of the sixties with vintage Louis XIV furniture will simply make it look sensational.

The combination of vintage and modern furniture gives a home the sophisticated look of both classic and ultra modern contemporary, bringing old life into the new life and mixing them to the perfection, in that when a person walks into your home, it will be hard to tell which century they are living in. This is the decor to die for because it speaks for itself.
