Editor,

This letter is with reference to the story in yesterday’s edition of The New Times titled: "EALA rallies behind South Sudan.”

The support extended by members of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) to the Republic of South Sudan is welcome. It is very interesting to note that the EALA is meeting in the beautiful and clean city of Kigali, which is fast turning into a MICE hub of the EAC region.

The Republic of South Sudan has, as recently as 9 July, 2011, gained independence. It is this initial period which is most trying for the newly formed Government of South Sudan and the people of the world’s newest nation.

It is gratifying to see how spontaneous the EAC region is with their welcoming gesture to South Sudan. For sure, admitting this new country into the EAC is a win-win situation for South Sudan as well as the five EAC countries.
