On top of a proven winger in Peter Kagabo from Rayon Sport, Police’s Serbian coach Kopunovic Goran also brought in Jacques Tuyisenge (midfielder), Frederick Ndata (central midfielder) and Burundian international Didier Kavumbagu (striker).
"I think Police will challenge APR for the title. They have a good coach and very good and experienced players so yeah… I see them challenging for the title,” Kiyovu coach Baptiste Kayiranga said before conceding that his side would struggle to compete with APR and Police.
With minimal activity in the transfer market, the veteran coach, who has managed Rayon Sport and AS Kigali in the past, concedes that a top four finish is a more realistic target for the green baggies as opposed to challenging for the title.
"Realistically speaking, I don’t think we can win the league. We don’t have a lot of depth in our squad.”
Kiyovu were Primus league runners-up last season and will represent Rwanda in the 2011/2012 Orange Confederations Cup.
The green baggies, which brought in seven players (Egide Rutayisire, Janvier Mutijima, Adolphe Hakundukize, Eric Kalisa, Simon Okwi, Victorie Manirakiza and Landry Gashema) in the off-season, open their league campaign this Saturday against newly promoted Nyanza.
Kiyovu was founded in 1964 and has won three league titles; their most recent one dating back in 1993.
