HERMAS Cliff Muvunyi grabbed a gold medal for Rwanda for the first time in the history of the All Africa Games in the 400m T46 yesterday at Zimpeto national stadium in Maputo, Mozambique.

Muvunyi who is competing in the sport for disabled category won the gold medal after clocking 50 seconds and 30 micro seconds.

This was Muvunyi’s second medal in a span of three days. On Monday, he won a silver medal in the 800m T46 after clocking 1:57:70 to clinch a qualifying spot for 2012 London Olympic Games according to the chairman of National Paralympic Committee, Dominique Bizimana.

As the games get to an end over the weekend, the 85-man contigent which represented Rwanda at the All Africa Games in Maputo has started to return back in batches following poor performances.

With neighbours Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya winning medals, Rwanda which spent over Rwf. 350 millions in both preparations and participation has only managed two medals in the sport with disabilities category only whereas normal able-bodied disciplines failed to clinch any silverware.
