JULES Kalisa has mutually quit as the Chief Executive Officer national football federation, Ferwafa a day after his boss Brig. Gen. Jean Bosco Kazura resigned citing personal reasons.
Kalisa, who has been serving in the football federation since 1999, agreed to step down after meeting with the executive committee yesterday at the federation’s head quarters in Remera.
He said, "I have mutually decided to step down as Ferwafa CEO because the working environment is not favorable for me to continue with my work.”
"I expressed my concern with the executive committee and everyone was contented with the decision I have taken,” said Kalisa, who vowed to continue playing a role in the development of football in the country.
Kalisa was first drafted into the local football body, Ferwafa in 1999 when he was hired to manage the organisation of the 1999 Cecafa Challenge Cup which Rwanda B team won.
In 2000, he pursued a FIFA Master in Management, Law and Humanities of Sport in three universities, De Montfort University in Leicester (England), SDA Bocconi School of Management in Milan (Italy) and the University of Neuchâtel (Switzerland).
Endorsed by Fifa, the Fifa Master was developed to become a top graduate programme developing all-round managers who can cope with the increasingly complex world of sport.
Between 2003 and 2006, Kalisa did an internship in Belgium before returning back to assume the assistant secretary post to the Secretary General of Ferwafa.
In April 2006, he was then promoted to the Secretary General post of the local football body when Brig. Gen. Jean Bosco Kazura was voted to succeed Lt. Gen. Caesar Kayizari as Ferwafa chief.
The local football body is expected to meet on Saturday to decide the way forward for the country’s football following recent resignation of its president Kazura and Amavubi head coach Sellas Tetteh, which came in the wake of Amavubi 0-5 demolition by Cote d’Ivoire in the penultimate 2012 Nations Cup qualifier a fortnight ago.
