Rwanda’s top two professional golfers Jean Baptiste Hakizimana and Emmanuel Ruterana are struggling to get sponsorship to take part in the prestigious Uganda Golf Open scheduled for September 21-24 at Par 72 Kitante golf course.

The pair, who has been training for over three weeks at the Nyarutarama golf course, told Times Sport yesterday that they need USD 2000 (about Rwf 1.2m) that includes competition fees, transport, caddy fees and up keep for the 4-day tournament.

"Up to now we are still sourcing for sponsorship from corporate companies and well wishers. Our target is to leave on Sunday and have some practice on the Kitante golf course,” 25-year old Hakizimana said.

Over 150 golfers from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi are expected to take part in the competition that has prize money of Rwf11m.

Serena Kigali Hotel sponsored the pair for the last golf event in Mombasa.
