RWANDA finally struck silverware at this year’s All Africa games in Maputo, Mozambique on Monday.

Muvunyi Hermas Cliff was Rwanda’s hero with a superbly executed run in the 800m T46 in one minute and fifty six seconds.

Muvunyi’s has ended the bad omen that Rwanda had in the Games ever since Marciane Mukamurenzi scooped silver in 10000m in the 1987 All Africa games held in Nairobi, Kenya.

The 20-year-old Paralympic athlete, who has a dream of competing at next year’s Olympic Games to be held in London, goes back to the pitch in seeking for the 400m medal.

Still in the Paralympics category, Theoneste Nsengimana finished eighth in the 1500m T46 recording a personal best of 4:14:32.

In basketball, the men’s team suffered their second loss in the group stage after the 67-73 defeat to hosts Mozambique. Guard Kenny Gasana scored 19 points.

It was the team’s third group stage match in the tournament following a poor display in the Fiba Afrobasket tournament held in Madagascar last month. The hoops lost to Algeria 54-60 in their second game.

In tennis, Anatole Bizimana lost to Uganda’s Duncan Mugabe in the second round 6-1 6-0 to bow out of the tournament. Jean Claude Gasigwa, Dieudonne Habiyambere also failed to progress past the second round.

In beach volleyball, Rwanda was sent packing after their second loss 0-2 to Ghana. They lost the first match against Algeria 0-2.
