Address the frequent accidents

Editor, I was saddened to hear of yet another accident involving a bus belonging to Horizon Bus Company in which five people were injured last week. Survivors of the Gicumbi accident said it must have occurred because the driver was ‘half asleep’, indicating he was fatigued. It is the second such accident involving a bus from the company within a few months.

Editor,

I was saddened to hear of yet another accident involving a bus belonging to Horizon Bus Company in which five people were injured last week. Survivors of the Gicumbi accident said it must have occurred because the driver was ‘half asleep’, indicating he was fatigued. It is the second such accident involving a bus from the company within a few months.

The first one took place in June and 36 people were injured after the bus veered off the road at Matimba sector, Nyagatare District.

Bus owners should ensure the safety of passengers by hiring two drivers for long distances. This way, there will be no possibilities of fatigue while driving. I appeal to authorities to rein in errant drivers and bus owners to guarantee safety on our roads.
