Mpano fails Isles of Man challenge

Upcoming athlete Faustin Mpano failed to qualify for the semi finals after finishing fourth in the preliminary round of the 800m on the fourth day of the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Isles of Man. Mpano clocked 2:03.29 to finish behind Kenya’s Timothy Kitum, Matthew Swanson from Canada and Robert Needham from England.

Upcoming athlete Faustin Mpano failed to qualify for the semi finals after finishing fourth in the preliminary round of the 800m on the fourth day of the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Isles of Man.

Mpano clocked 2:03.29 to finish behind Kenya’s Timothy Kitum, Matthew Swanson from Canada and Robert Needham from England.


In the on-going Commonwealth youth games, Rwanda sent three representatives namely; Mpano, Celine Iranzi (3000m) and Egide Kayigire (3000m).

Johanna Umurungi, who was expected to compete in swimming 200m butterfly failed to make it to the competition as she struggled with illness.

Australia currently leads the medals table with nine gold medals, nine silver medals and six bronze medals. England is second with nine gold medals, five silver medals and three bronze medals.   Wales are currently in third place with two gold medals, three silver medals and three bronze medals.
