World Vision Rwanda has teamed up with a local NGO, Centre for Conflict Management (CCM), to boost peace building in the country.

CCM is an affiliate of the National University of Rwanda.

CCM will focus on theoretical areas of research and capacity building on peace and conflict resolution, while World Vision runs practical projects related to such issues in communities.

The collaboration between the two institutions which was sealed in a memorandum of understanding signed Wednesday evening is expected to expand their impact on Rwanda, according to George Gitau, the head of World Vision Rwanda.

"CCM and World Vision’s work together will increase effectiveness of both institutions in contributing towards peace building and conflict transformation, through contributing to the process of reconstructing peace in the country,” Gitau said.

"We want to reach a point where we need no donors; this is how it starts, with the first step of putting ink on this paper and later enlarging our impact even to the rest of the world”.

The National Director of CCM, Prof Paul Rutayisire, was also positive that the societal impact of his organisation would be enormous following the cooperation of the two organisations.

"We have the theoretical part, because we have been conducting research, developing expertise…now that we are working with World Vision, our impact will be felt more.”

The partnership between the two organisations would mainly focus on issues like training of nongovernmental organisations involved in peace building process, provision of internships to CCM students, research and mobilisation of resources towards the cause.
