MUHANGA- Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the death of a man, whose body was found on the shores of a stream in Nyagako in Mushishiro Sector, Muhanga District.

The body of Celestin Rugema, 48, was discovered on Monday morning, with deep cuts. Rugema is suspected to have been murdered by members of his family over land related wrangles, according to Police.

Police said that an investigation was immediately launched but the names of the suspects could not be released until the investigations are complete.

Mushishiro Executive Secretary, Sixte Mugwarakarama said the body was discovered by residents.

"The body had three wounds on the head and information from residents indicates that the deceased had a conflict with his brother Faustin Habarurema -who was released after a 12 year-jail term for genocide related crimes,” Mugwarakarama said on phone.

"The contentious piece of land contains minerals and the two had disagreements over who owns the land and how the revenues from the mining activities should be shared,” a resident said.

The deceased’s body was buried Tuesday morning after a post mortem at Kabgayi Hospital.

This is the second murder in Muhanga District, since last month. Another body of a man identified as Zelphine Niyonsaba, was found in Rugeramigozi on the Huye-Muhanga highway.
