The completion of the multi-million dollar building in the city, Insurance Plaza, is scheduled to be completed next month, the proprietor disclosed yesterday.

The Rwf 17 billion building in the Central Business District is owned by Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB), which was formed after the merging the Social Security Fund of Rwanda (SSFR), formerly the sole proprietors, and the government workers’ medical insurance scheme, RAMA.

In a telephone interview, Fred Rwihunda, the RSSB Director of Real Estate, told The New Times that the contractors are currently putting the final touches on the building.

"The construction will be complete by the end of next month. Most of the major work was completed; we are now at the finishing stage,” Rwihunda said.

The construction of the 17-storey building on a 23,000 square metre piece of land started in 2007.

The facility is being built by Thomas & Piron, a Belgian construction company.

"The building is now fully booked for various activities,” he added.

Among the institutions that have already booked space in the building are Nyarugenge District headquarters, the Construction One-Stop Centre and Equity Bank.

The land, which currently houses Nyarugenge District offices and the Construction One-Stop centre were acquired by the New Century Hotel, whose construction is already underway at the adjacent former Jali Club, is to be developed during the second phase of the hotel’s construction.
