Editor,

I would like to express my appreciation to the Kigali city authorities for not only considering to replace the old traffic control lights in the city, but also for increasing them at various  busy spots.

The modern lights  will not only improve the image of Kigali city but most importantly they will ease traffic flow especially during the rush hours.

Some busy points such as, Gakinjiro, the Kabindi intersection and the road entering into Kiyovu from Peage, as well as Yamaha-Kinamba have been lacking such a facility for long.

Sometimes, motorist would be involved in accidents trying to manoeuvre, especially during the peak hours of the evening, as everyone is rushing to get home.

A friend who just visited from a neighbouring country made a joke that Kigali will be the first city in the region to have ‘flat-screen’ (plasma) traffic lights’.

The new lights will also ensure the safety of pedestrians because they are not as unpredictable as the old ones.
