BURERA - The visiting Korean delegation, yesterday, toured a proposed site for the construction of a model village at Kabyimana Village, Cyanika Sector, in Burera District

The 11-member delegation led by the Director General of International Administrative Development Centre in the Korean Ministry of Public Administration and Security, Kim Won Jin, were hosted by the Governor, Aime Bosenibamwe

Kim hailed Rwanda’s enthusiasm, strong will and aspiration to develop themselves.

"We could tell the commitment of the local leaders and the enthusiasm of the local population. We have witnessed their strong willingness to know the Korean experience and skills. They don’t want to beg and this area has strong potential for agricultural development,’’ Kim said.

Korea, through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), provides assistance to the local communities mainly in the education, agriculture and ICT sectors.

Accompanied by officials from the Korean Prime Minister’s office, Kim noted that Korea and Rwanda have a lot in common, especially a bad history, and now a strong and committed leadership which, he said, are some of the major factors towards faster development

"As friends, who suffered and faced terrible challenges in the past, let’s seek cooperation,’’ Kim said.

New Village Program is currently implemented in Kagarama Village in Rugarika Sector, Kamonyi District, where a health post and public hall were constructed.

Bosenibamwe commended the Korean mutual cooperation, which he said will help to speed up sustainable development.

"The people of the Northern Province appreciate your support as we keep the momentum for sustainable development and promotion of tourism in our country,’’ Bosenibamwe said.

Rwanda and Laos in Asia are the only countries where the program is being implemented.
