THE International Olympic Committee President Jacque Rogge has donated sports equipments worthy $25000 (about Frw 14.7m) to local sports federations.

Speaking at a press conference held at Lemigo hotel on Thursday, Rogge said, "I have donated sports equipment to sports federations to help them improve their activities.”

Rogge also recommended Rwanda for their organization which has seen the country develop its sports standards.

"With the kind of organization that I have seen, we will continue to pledge our full support to Rwanda National Olympic Committee such that they can excel at international competitions,” added Rogge.

The IOC boss, who was in the country on a one-day official visit, also urged Africa to bid for Olympic Games if they really want to ever host the quadrennial games.

"A few years back, we received a games bid from South Africa but after sometime their government refused because that’s was not their priority. So we can’t just force any nation in Africa to bid for the games,
"We have now received a new bid from South Africa to host the 2024 games and we will be supportive and ready to support Africa to host to their first Olympic Games,” added Rogge.

While in the country, Rogge met President Kagame, visited Kigali memorial centre as well the ministry of sports and culture and Rwanda Olympic Committee headquarters.

From Rwanda, the Belgian official proceeded to Burundi yesterday were he was expected to visit the new ITF regional development center managed by Rwanda’s Thierry Ntwali.

The equipment includes basketball and volleyball ball and nets, tennis ball and rackets among others.
